Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Jim Brickman in Concert
To Benefit Domestic Violence Intervention Services, Inc.

Annual “Hope” fundraiser event helps DVIS’ fight against domestic abuse

(Tulsa)  Celebrity rockers, adult-contemporary pianists and country stars unite in a Tulsa concert on June 5, 2003, to raise funds to help Domestic Violence Intervention Services (DVIS) fight domestic violence and assist its victims.

Rock singer Joan Jett, pianist Jim Brickman, and local favorite, pop-country artist Mary Cogan will perform what must be the most diverse concert ever held in Tulsa’s Brady Theater.

“The variety of artists, united for a common cause, really helps illustrate the fact that domestic violence is a problem that concerns everyone,” said Felicia Collins Correia, DVIS executive director. “Its victims are from all walks of life – all economic, educational, social, religious, and ethnic groups.

Joan Jett is a true American original. While still in her early teens, Joan, often called "the girl Elvis," founded the all-girl rock group, THE RUNAWAYS, whose hits such as "Cherry Bomb" made them an international sensation. In 1981, Jett became the first woman in rock to own her own record label, Blackheart Records, with her No. 1 Hit, "I Love Rock n' Roll.” The title single spent eight weeks atop the American Billboard chart, and the album sold over ten million copies. Other smash hits quickly followed including, “Crimson and Clover” and “Light of Day.” In 1988, Jett’s album “Up Your Alley” went Platinum.

A musician whose million-selling albums are titled "By Heart," "Picture This," "The Gift," "Destiny" and "Love Songs & Lullabies," Jim Brickman strikes a chord with listeners, melding the timeless beauty of classical influences with the lively energy of contemporary pop. Brickman recently completed a sold-out tour with Olivia Newton-John and hosts a weekly nationally syndicated radio show, “Your Weekend With Brickman.”

Tickets for the “Hope Concert” go on sale May 8, 2003 at the Brady Theater box office (open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m..), online at www.startickets.com , and at all Tulsa Albertson’s stores. Reserved  seats are $40 for lower level and $30 for balcony.

The concert includes a pre-show sponsor party and silent auction at Studio 212 featuring items donated by these performers and many other celebrities, as well as tickets to the Kentucky Derby, National Finals Rodeo and OU football.

Sponsors include TV Guide, Clear Channel Communications, Diane and John Allen, BOK/George Kaiser Family Fund at Tulsa Community Foundation, Dollar Thrifty, EDS, Lynn and Barbara Owens, Plan Benefit Analysts, Rodolf and Todd, Hillcrest Healthcare System, Hilti, AEP, The University of Tulsa, Alyson and Larry Langholz, the Zarrow Families Foundation and Stillwater National Bank. A limited number of sponsorship packages are still available. All proceeds support DVIS’ efforts to provide an emergency shelter, counseling and education for victims and abusers, a 24-hour crisis line, and court advocacy.
